    -Mitragyna : From the Greek mitra "a turban, bishop's head-dress" and gyne "a woman, female organ", referring to the stigma and to the cap-shaped ovary.
    -Parvifolia : From the Latin parus, parvi- "small" and florus -a -um "flower", small-flowered.
