The fruit and leaves of Memecylon umbellatum are astringent.

The leaves are antileucorrhoeic, spasmolytic and hypoglycaemic and they are said to have anti-diarrheal properties.

A lotion prepared from the leaves is used in ophthalmia and a decoction of the leaves is given for venereal diseases.

A decoction of the root is used in excessive menstrual discharge.
