The leaves of Pterocarpus santalinus grow alternately on the stem (spirally arranged).
The leaves are compound (trifoliate). They are dark green coloured above and paler beneath. The leaflets are coriaceous, shiny and glabrous on both sides (some minute hairs on the margins and on the midrib beneath).
The leaf of Pterocarpus santalinus is 20-30 cm long and 15-25 cm wide with a 4-5 cm long petiole.
The leaflets are ovate, the apex is obtuse-emarginate, the base is rounded to cordate and the margins are entire. The leaflets have a 6-8 mm long petiolule. The venation of the leaf is reticulate with a prominent midrib.
