The leaves of Diospyros vera grow alternately on the stem (spirally arranged).
The leaves have a 3 mm long and pubescent petiole.
The leaf is simple, bright green coloured above and paler beneath. The leaf is coriaceous and glabrous on both sides (some minute hairs on the margins and on the midrib beneath).
The leaf of Diospyros vera is 2-5 cm long and 1-1.5 cm wide. The shape is elliptic or obovate, the apex is obtuse and sometimes emarginate, the base is cuneate to attenuate and the margins are entire.
The venation of the leaf is reticulate with a prominent midrib.
