The flowers of Diospyros vera are unisexual on separate trees (some trees bearing male flowers and some female flowers).
The male flowers of Diospyros vera are 1-3 flowered and grouped in cymes. The pedicel is very short to absent.
The flowers are densely pubescent.
The calyx is cup-shaped, 2-3 mm long with 3 calyx lobes. The calyx is yellow-greenish coloured and densely pubescent.
The corolla is urn-shaped and 5-6 mm long and 2 mm across. The corolla is composed of a 3 mm long tube and 3 spreading lobes (2 mm long). The corolla is yellow-cream coloured, densely pubescent outside and glabrous inside.
The male flowers have 6 stamens with 1.5 mm long filaments and 1.5 mm long anthers.
The female flowers of Diospyros vera are solitary, sessile or subsessile.
The calyx is cup-shaped, 3 mm long with 3 calyx lobes. The calyx is yellow-greenish coloured and tomentose outside.
The corolla is urn-shaped and 4 mm long and 2-3 mm across. The corolla is composed of a 3 mm long tube and 3 spreading lobes (2 mm long). The corolla is yellow-cream coloured, densely pubescent outside and glabrous inside.
The pistil is 3-4 mm long and pubescent. The style is 1-2 mm long and the ovary is globose and 2 mm across.
